electric water kettles left on cause fire?
I have an electric water kettle at work..If it is left on and forgotten to be turned off, will the kettle go on fire or does the heating element just fade out and not work anymore? Some of my co-workers go bonkers if someone does not stand over the kettle until it is boiled and then turn it off. I say that it will just destroy the heating element and won’t go on fire. Of course I realize it is better to turn it off and remember that you are using the kettle. Does anyone agree with me or am I just annoyed at the panic that one of my coworker’s goes into..She has signs all over reminding everyone of this situation..

How to make a kitchen in a dorm?
I’ll need
Counter
storage
mini fridge with separate freezer door
hot plate
microwave
The communal kitchen is gross so I will probably only use it when I need an oven.
The dorm building is a converted hotel that was built in th early 60s.
No gas but I can do dishes in my sink. The sink and vanity are in a nook in the main room while shower and toilet are seperated so it isn’t really in the bathroom.

Which are better quality, applicances of yesteryear or those of today?
I have a couple of old small appliances from the 1920’s-1930’s (Toaster, hair dryer, space heater, electric kettle stove) in my house, and in all the time I have never had one break down once, and these things are beautifully made in art deco style and have lasted 70-80 years. On the flip side, I have had expensive hair dryers, toasters etc that have given out after a year or two. What do you think is better quality, does anyone else use vintage applicances?
