Physics homework help? current and electricity?
I was away for the lesson on these questions so i don’t know the answers. Please help me answer the questions? Please include the working where needed (eg. equations) because i have to show my working in my book.
5a) Fill the gaps
Wall sockets are connected in….. with each other.
A fuse in a mains plug is in …… with the appliance and cuts off the ….. wire if too much current passes through the appliance.
b)i) what is the main difference between a fuse and a circuit breaker?
ii) give 2 reasons why a circuit breaker is safer than a fuse.
6a) i) calculate the current in a 230V 2.5 kW electric kettle.
ii)which fuse, 3A, 5A or 13A, would you fit in the kettle plug?
b) calculate the power supplied to a 230V electric toaster when the current through it is 4.0A
A 5ohm resistor is in series with a lamp, a switch and a 12 V battery.
ai) when the switch is closed for 60 seconds, a direct current of 0.6A passes through the resistor. Calculate:
i) the energy supplied by the battery
ii) the energy transformed in the resistor
iii) the energy transformed in the lamp.
Thanks. I’ll choose a best answer I promise (as long as there is a good one).

Electric Kettle, or MicroWave. Which boils water more efficiently?
I’m trying to settle a debate with my house mate.
I don’t care about sanitation, safety issues, taste etc.
I know that technically the exact same amount of energy is used to boil a cup of water. Buuutt, which is more efficient in regards to energy wastage and the amount of energy that comes out the other side of the device and back into the mains supply.
I think that a microwave is more efficient at boiling water. As as far as I know, all the electrical energy (beside the rotation motor and light bulb) is used to agitate water molecules. But with an electric kettle, a lot of the electricity must go back into the power grid.
Basically. Will I end up paying more money to boil a cup of water in the microwave or in a kettle?
I hope this makes sense.
